Quesnel Dance Festival Scholarship with Franco Cadelago

We would like to extend our congratulations to the talented dancers who have been selected to train with Franco Cadelago. Our Ballet Master, Miguel Nguyen, was previously trained and managed by Franco Cadelago as a principal dancer in Argentina.

Franco is thrilled to share his knowledge and expertise with the scholarship recipients who will be taking classes with him in Argentina. Below, you will find his biography and more information about his work.

Scholarship recipients receive classes at the Joven Ballet Argentino located Montevideo 787 caba. Buenos Aires. They also receive private coaching with Franco Cadelago, which in total is valued at $1000 USD.

He began his career at the age of 12 in 1994. In 1998, he received training at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he took classes with prestigious teachers such as Alejandro Totto, Silvia Bazilis, Estela Herman, Guido De Benedetti, Raúl Candal, and at the Julio Bocca Studio. The same year,
he received the "Presidency of the Argentine Nation for Cultural Excellence" award, presented by the Government of the Argentine Republic, which is awarded every four years.

Between 1996 and 1999, he received eight gold medals and the Revelation Prize, International Classical Dance Competition "Le Chausson D´or 1er Grand Prix – Des hauts-De Seine", the "1er. Prix Artistique" and gold medal, international ballet competitions in the city of Paris, France, from the Latin American Dance Association. In 1998, he became the Principal Dancer at the Teatro Argentino de la Plata, where Vladimir Vasiliev chose him as the lead in Chopiniana and Paganini, among other ballets.

In 1999, he studied at the American Ballet Theatre in New York, United States. The following year, he became the Principal Dancer in Bordeaux, France, and in 2004, he became the Principal Dancer of Jeune Ballet de Luxembourg. From 2005 to 2011, he was the Principal Dancer in "Ballet Concerto" by Iñaki Urlezaga. During his tenure as a Principal Dancer in these companies, he worked with Ekaterina Sergeyevna Maximova, danced choreography from Frederick Ashton and Kenneth MacMillan. Franco has also performed as the Principal dancer in famous ballets such as Le Corsaire, La Bayadere, Don Quixote, Swan Lake, and Giselle, among others.

In 2012, he participated as a figure in the ¨Bailando por un Sueño¨ (Argentina TV program produced by SHOWMATCH), which was broadcast by Channel 13. Every year, he is invited to lead works in various cities in Argentina, such as Mendoza, San Luis, Córdoba, Neuquén, Corrientes, among others. He has danced abroad in Italy, New York, Germany, Moscow, Peru, El Salvador, Paraguay, Venezuela, Chile, Uruguay, China, New Zealand, Greece, Miami, Mexico, Colombia, France, Spain, Egypt, Panama, Honduras, Argentina, New York, Egypt, Italy, Ecuador, Germany, Greece, Honduras, Colombia, Ecuador, Cyprus, China, Japan, Hong Kong, France, and other countries.

In 2013, he founded and became the Director of the Inclusive Project “Taller Alegría” Dance School – La Matanza, located in Buenos Aires, Argentina dedicated to people with down syndrome, and special abilities. In 2016, he became the Choreographer and Creator of the work “último tango, a production that infused tango elements with ballet technique. From 2014 to 2020, he continued to develop his career as a Ballet Master and Resident Choreographer in Ballet Centro Del Conocimiento located in Posadas Misiones.

In 2016 and 2017, he was invited to participate as a jury in various National and International Ballet competitions. In October and November 2017, he was a guest as an Artist and Choreographer of the Opera Rusalka (TEATRO COLÓN) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 2018, he was invited by the National Opera Company of the Palacio de Bellas Artes México in Mexico City to replenish the Rusalka Opera as a choreography designer.

In May 2019, he created the work Metamorfosis, which premiered in Paris, France, and in July of 2019, premiered in Buenos Aires. Throughout 2019, he choreographed and set classical ballets for the Ballet del Parque del Conocimiento and other companies in Argentina.  In 2018, He set the ballet Don Quixote and Giselle for Marianela Nuñez and Alejandro Parente when they were touring in Argentina. He was also invited as a guest dancer and adjudicator for multiple festivals in the country.

In October 2019, he was invited to the First International Ballet Gala in the City of La Paz, Bolivia, where he shared the stage with artists from Albania, the United States, Japan, Bolivia, and Argentina. In December 2019, He choreographed his version of Nutcracker for the Ballet del Parque del Conocimiento. In March 2020, he joined the Institute Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón as the Master of the Dance Career.  He is currently still working in Teatro Colon and has recently prepared dancers to compete internationally in competitions such as YAGP and Prix De Lausanne. In 2022, he was invited by UNICEF (Dancing for Peace) to perform Ravel's Bolero in tribute to Jorge Donn at the San Martin Theater in CABA. In 2023, he founded and became the Director of the Young Argentine Ballet. In the same year, in July, he was in charge of the Artistic Direction of the 100 years gala. Please be aware that the scholarship does not cover the expenses for your hotel and flight. It's important to note that Miguel Nguyen may accompany the dancers on the trip, but this is dependent on his schedule.

He will be performing in Argentina in July 2025 and can help accomodate dancers on their trip to Argentina.

Dancers who have worked with Franco have gone on to dance lead roles and join professional companies.
